The Horror Agenda

The People Under the Stairs (1991)

Season 4 Episode 1

Happy New Year and welcome back to the Horror Agenda. This week we head back to the 90s with our very first guest. That's right we have Kelly Camacho on the show, sister of one of our co-hosts. Kelly is a cosplayer, comic book nerd, union organizer, and aspiring horror writer.

CW for this week's episode includes discussion of assault, incest, and child abuse.

This week we cover the under-seen Wes Craven film from 1991, The People Under the Stairs. To see other films, listeners have requested or that we want to cover, you can see our list on Letterboxd.

In this episode we reference this piece from Jake Dee (2021) in Joblo.

The film features a bathtub scene that is very visceral and we discuss this video where Wendy Robie discusses the scene's filming.

In this episode we allude to this Special Effects featurette from the Blu-Ray release of the film.

Kelly recommends Primate (2026) a film still in theaters at the time of recording. The film, directed by Johannes Roberts is about a pet chimpanzee who gets bit he goes from lovable to lethal.

Victor recommends My Name is Earl (2005-2009) a show, created by Greg Garcia, about a guy, Earl, who wins the lotto and wants to make good with all the people he has wronged and fix his karma.

Carlos recommends Vampire Survivors (2022) a rouge-like bullet hell video game available on several platforms and lots of DLC.

He also recommends Beneath the Trees Where Nobody Sees (2025) by Patrick Horvath, a comic about a world of anthropomorphized animals where things seem beautiful but there's a serial killer lurking.
