Koreatown Ghost Story (2021)
Welcome back to the Horror Agenda as we cover a ghost story, a Koreatown ghost story. That's right, we are covering Koreatown Ghost Story written and directed by Minsun Park and Teddy Tenenbaum. Minsun also play a small part in the film. This short features and is executive produced by THE Margaret Cho. The film stars Lyrica Okano as Hannah Lee who visits a family friend and then things get interesting.
You can watch the film here on YouTube's Alter channel.
The film has a LinkTree with several links we reference in the episode.
We reference this Fangoria piece by Meredith Borders here.
We also reference this video from the Asian Media and Cultural Studies Network on YouTube. The Network is an initiative of Deakin University with partners from Tsinghua and Wuhan Universities in China, Shanghai University, Hong Kong Baptist University, Nanyang Technological University in Singapore, Osaka City.
Carlos remembered Margaret's discussion with how the media responded to her weight but here are some more recent retrospectives on that era.
This Best Life piece by Leah Beck from 2023.
Sean Malin of Vulture interviews Margaret Cho on 20 years of I'm the One That I Want here (2021).
There is also this 2020 Page Six piece by Nicki Gostin on how the 90s damaged women according to Margaret.
This piece from Margaret Cho herself in 2016 on Bloomberg.
This week Victor recommends the sitcom Kim's Convenience (2016-2021) about a Korean Canadian family and their convenience store of the same name.
He also recommends the horror film My Soul to Take (2010) a Wes Craven film about seven children, born when a serial killer disappears, who turn sixteen and start being killed off. He also recommends the band from the trailer and soundtrack Sick Puppies.
Carlos recommends all of Margaret Cho's work obviously. He also recommends a book by Keith Rosson called Fever House. Carlos follows Jason K. Pargin and does not say too much, is enjoying the book so far (not finished at time of publishing).
